Baltimore has suffered from the vacancy “epidemic” more so than other American Metropolis’s and has shown no significant growth in the last forty years. Its downtown area has completely transformed from one side of the main harbor to the other. This has introduced completely new architecture and plans that do not speak to the community or history of the street, making them seem arbitrary and irrelevant. In my plan I am re-introducing the old “downtown”, know as Howard Street between the 00 block and the 900 block, and use the history of its vacancies and broken historic freight tunnel to dictate my design. I will create a historically efficient design, using vacancy to renew the street in such a way that it can renew its self in future shifts, rather than decay instantly
